Prep: Zoom Classes on Leading Seders

Telling The Story (AKA Weekly Torah Class) @ 7:00pm PST

Rabbi K likes to say the haggadah is like having the playbill + theater reviews + set design and costumes, but not the play. See, the haggadah assumes you know the story of our leaving Egypt already. However, not only might you want a refresher, turns out the rabbis teach this story in many ways -- highlighting insecurity, fear, courage, compassion, ego, curiosity, and hope -- to name a just a few. The mitzvah of Passover is telling the story, come and learn how to tell it in a way that speaks to you and to this moment.

    Kavana

Kavana Prep & Practice: Passover @ 10:00am PST

This monthly program is for families - parents and kids all together. This year, we'll be structuring the program to have three breakout groups (one for parents, younger children and older children) to ensure that the P&P program is appropriate for families with children ranging from preschool through elementary.

We strongly encourage you to sign up for the series - we're trying to build a sense of community here, and the more you come, the more you'll get out of it. However, we know this isn't possible for every family, and so this is the option to sign up for the April/Passover P&P session.

The Telling: Prepare for Passover by Sharing your Journey Story with Rabbi Mira Rivera & Rabbi Dianne Cohler-Esses @ 7:00pm EST

Four times the Torah tells us to mark our liberation by telling our story. The Israelites take a liberating journey out of the narrow straits of Egypt and into the expanse of the wilderness. What are your journey stories? What narrow straits have you left behind? What new practices and patterns have you adopted? What in your life do you currently experience as narrow? What expanses do you yearn for? What promise might inspire you to move towards freedom?

Join Rabbis Mira Rivera and Dianne Cohler-Esses as they lead a session of journey stories to prepare your heart and soul for Passover. They will begin the session with their own journey stories and invite participants to tell theirs in small groups (chat rooms in
Zoom). Stories will be structured by twinned seder themes including– slavery and freedom, deprivation and abundance, raw and cooked and wholeness and brokenness.

    Jew Too? Not Your Bubbe’s Seder @ 8:00pm - 9:30pm EST

Join Rabbi Emily Cohen, Rabbi Tarlan Rabizadey and Rabbi Mira Rivera for a live Zoom episode of “Jew Too?”

Pop culture might tell you that every seder comes with brisket, yiddishisms, and Jews of Eastern European heritage, but not all Jews are Ashkenazi, and seders are as diverse as our people. We’ll learn from Rabbi Tarlan Rabizadeh– the first Persian female rabbi – and Rabbi Mira Rivera – co-founder of “Harlem Hevruta:” a brave space for Jews of Color – about their stories of this sacred season.

During this time of physical distance, “Jew Too?” is offering Zoom episodes produced beyond the year’s partnership with B’nai Jeshurun to respond to this unprecedented moment. This is the first such episode. “Jew Too” is excited to continue to collaborate with B’nai Jeshurun to bring you monthly produced episodes. You can find the full series of this season’s episodes on SoundCloud and we hope you’ll listen and share!

How to Lead a Zoom Seder with Rabbi Tarlan Rabizadah @ 7:00pm PST
Zoom. You think, “I’m on it all the time now, how hard can it be?” Trust us, when you throw in a few rogue family members, the challenge of trying to eat together, not to mention really accessing one of our greatest stories ever, you may want a few pointers. R. Tarlan knows the score, not only on the Passover front, but on teaching virtually. Ask nice and she may throw in some beautiful Persian traditions, too. Zoom link

    * Why are we asking for a donation for our virtual seder?
While most of our services and programs are free of charge as we have moved online, the overall needs of the community have increased dramatically. We still need your help to sustain those who make this programming, our pastoral work, our services and our community outreach possible. If you can, please consider making a tax-deductible contribution to help support our clergy, staff, musicians, and contract workers during this difficult time. "

Kitchen All In Zoom Seder @ 6:30pm PST

Whatever else is happening in the world, the passover table has brought us revelations and revolutions. We expect no less (and maybe even a bit more) this year. Rabbis Kushner, Meyer, Rabizadeh, Senior Educator Joel Abramowitz, Ritual Maven Marilyn Heiss and lots of star Kitchen-ites from across the land are working at this very moment in order to bring us all together at one giant seder -- so that we can re-enact one of our oldest stories, and take part in one of our oldest, most meaningful rituals. Second night, 4.9, 6:30 PM Free

Counting of the Omer: Everyday @ 8:00pm PST

Starting at the end of 2nd seder (Kitchen zoom seder April 9), and continuing at 8 PM every evening, torah tells us to count every day until the holiday of Shavuot (49 days later). But like many commands, it doesn’t say why. This lack of an explanation allowed the rabbis to invent meanings: reflective, spiritual, kabbalistic — one for each of the 49 days. Join us and count.
